WILLIAM BLAKE (1757–1827) - Glass Archive is proud to have acquired two works by the artist William Blake.

The Stoning of Achan (1800) was part of a large group of over 80 biblical watercolours created for his patron, Thomas Butts. In addition to our version Blake's artwork forms part of the collection at the Tate.

Based on Joshua 7, it shows the execution of Achan, who stole forbidden loot from Jericho. The depiction is highly confined, within a tight space where the Israelites are in extreme proximity to Achan. The palette is completely muted and nearly monochromatic. This is a one-of-a-kind reproduction print featuring the artist's trademark dark, glowing aesthetic.

These striking works are presented in a lightbox rather than in a more traditional gallery fashion emphasising Blake's mastery of dramatic, spiritual light.
This modern display choice illuminates the delicate, translucent layers of his tempera medium, making the figures appear to glow from within — aligning perfectly with Blake's lifelong artistic focus on divine, visionary energy.

THE LIFE OF CHRIST - These striking paintings by James Tissot (1836−1902) were first presented in Paris in 1894 followed by London, Europe and America. In 1900, British artist John Singer Sargent persuaded Brooklyn Museum to acquire the original series of 350 watercolours. Our gallery has been fortunate to acquire glass slides of Tissot's extraordinary works manufactured in London around the same time.
